We base our classes on our own specially developed method for young learners learning a second language: the Play and Speak framework.
Our framework allows young learners to acquire languages in a stimulating and highly interactive environment supported on a solid and structured curriculum. Games, songs, storytelling and role-play are part of a well thought-out plan, carefully developed to fulfil children’s needs at all stages of the learning process.
The Play and Speak scheme has been carefully developed having children’s interests and abilities as the focus. Here are the key elements on which the scheme is based on:
Following governmental guidelines and our own belief, we believe that children best learn through play. Our tutors deliver well planned, purposeful play activities in a relaxed and fun, pressure free environment. Behind the games, there is a carefully developed programme which maximises the unique disposition of children to absorb a language at a young age. They learn a second language the same way they learn their native tongue: by playing while interacting with other children.
Our aim is to do so in a social environment, where they can communicate- after all they are learning a language- with other children and adults. Children are actively encouraged to participate whenever the feel ready to do so.
We use multisensory techniques to allow children absorb communication in all its forms and to appeal to all kinds of learners. Children learn through music and story telling (auditory), action songs an dance (kinaesthetic), BSL and photos (visual) with the help of puppets and other fun props.
We make sure no style is left out and that all children are motivated and engaged at all times.
Native or near-native tutors ensure that the immersion in the language and culture is complete.
Children learn not only from the best tutors around, they also benefit from being led by a native tutor and acquire a native like accent flawlessly from the beginning.
Children are encouraged to use the language they are learning throughout the session and tutors use props to help children link vocabulary and concepts rather than resort to translation.
Children don’t even realize they are learning as they are acquiring the language effortlessly through play and fun activities in a natural way. Sessions are entertaining, play-based and the second language is spoken from the first day, giving children the opportunity to immerse themselves in their new language.
Music has traditionally been linked to the development of language skills. Children like to listen to nursery rhymes and little by little remember them. Gradually they start singing them and joining in with actions.
Singing is a vital element in our classes. We use both, simple traditional music and also songs especially developed to learn new vocabulary. Our young learners love our catchy tunes and danceable numbers!
Our programme has been carefully designed and is aligned with the guidelines and recommendations from the QCA and EYFS.
Young learners acquire languages in a stimulating and interactive environment supported on a solid and structured curriculum. Games, songs, storytelling and role-play are part of a well thought-out plan, carefully developed to fulfil children’s needs at all stages of the learning process.
Each stage has been thoughtfully planned to be age appropriate and to appeal to all kinds of learners.
From the moment they come through the door, children are having fun. And the best thing about it is that they are also learning a skill which will be invaluable for their futures in many ways.
Sessions are amusing and entertaining so children feel inspired and confident to start using their new language.
